The Devil's Father By Minette Walters
Pan, £6.99
IT'S a good month for gripping thrillers. As, just like Louise Welsh's The Bullet Trick, this is another book which will have you guessing about its finale.
Walters uses an interesting device to introduce us to Reuters news correspondent Connie Burns. Two of the journalist's reports about brutal killings in Sierra Leone set the scene for the narrative to come.
The language and style is short and direct, allowing the plot to move at a fast pace, sometimes punctuated by copies of emails.
And as the story develops Connie moves in on unmasking a serial killer.
The end result is a disturbing, but engrossing, psychological thriller.
